7 Days of Calm (Beta Group)

Welcome to the first day of The Calm Space Beta Group.

We start with a gentle soothing sound bath, find yourself a place where you can get comfy and let the sounds flow over you. If you like, here is something to ponder. Did this sound bath allow me to arrive in my body? What does that feel like.

Welcome to the day two of The Calm Space Beta Group.

Here’s a lovely breath practice, lay on your back – prop yourself up under your shoulders and had are comfortable and then take your arms above your head, pillows here so your arms are supported. And then simply just allow yourself to breathe. Allow yourself to practice this a few times today if possible and just see how it affects your mind and body. The more you can do this the more benefit. You can, if needed, stand against a wall and try the same thing – it’s not as supported as laying down but can help if a calm moment is needed.

Some thoughts for journaling or to ponder: When I paid attention to my breath today what did I notice?

Welcome to day 3 of The Calm Space Beta Group
When we’re thinking about calmness we often just focus on the mind, but the body and mind are of course interlinked. We have a large muscle, the psoas muscle that joins ribs, pelvis and femur. This muscle is linked to the parasympathetic nervous system, that rest and digest part of us.

This exercise helps to release tension in that muscle and in so doing eases up pressure on the knee , pelvis and lower back.

The key really is in the alignment for this exercise otherwise you’ll be targeting different areas.

As we talked about on Monday evening see if you can add in this exercise several times today, you can have a go at this whihle cleaning your teeth or watching something, talking to other people, while your waiting for the kettle to boil…. challenge yourself to do it! And let me know how you get on . For some reason I can’t embed this video so you’ll need to click on the link to view it

Welcome to Day 4 of The Calm Space Beta
Today is a chance to have a bit of a mindful moment over your favourite brew! So easy to gulp a drink down or drink it whilst your busy with something else – we are all mistresses of multi-tasking. But taking time to just focus on one thing at a time will help you to start slowing down. Lower stress levels and in the long term boost your concentration, help you sleep better (because you aren’t in flight or fight mode) and help with motivation. The more we take time to really savour what we put in our bodies the more we honour our bodies, the food and drink that we consume and allow our bodies to digest in the best way. If you don’t drink hot drinks you can still do this with a cold drink. (There’s no image on this video – my technical skills were pushed to the limit with trying to find how to do this)

Welcometo Day 5 of The Calm Space Beta

Today’s practice is the 5 senses exercise. Such a lovely one this that can be done anywhere and help bring your thoughts to a calmer place in stressful moments. You can disconnect from upsetting memories or emotions by focusing on your surroundings It interrupts the fight or flight response, calms the nervous system and reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety. This can also help to train the brain to focus on one task at a time – multi-tasking (much as we can be proud of this) can lead to stress, forgetfulness, increase anxiey and cause us to think of ourselves as failing. Taking time out to stop, realise you are getting anxious can really help with your self-esteem. A nice practice to do with your children if it gets to stressful situations.

Welcome to Day 6 of The Calm Spae Beta

Even just five minutes of drumming can give your brain and emotions a quick tune-up. The rhythmic repetition helps synchronize neural activity, boosting focus, coordination, and working memory. It also stimulates the release of endorphins and dopamine, which can lift mood and reduce stress. The physical act of hitting a drum provides an outlet for tension, while the steady beat can shift your brainwaves toward more relaxed, meditative states—leaving you both energized and calmer in a surprisingly short time.

Welcome to Day 7 of The Calm Space Beta

Here’s a practice that you can do at anytime. Taking a moment to breath and really look and appreciate something. This gives you time for a moment of peace and calm at anytime of the day.
