The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is a fantastic resource and companion for the breastfeeding mother. It has a range of information and real mothers’ stories on everything from preparing for breastfeeding during pregnancy to feeding cues, from nursing positions to expressing and storing breastmilk.
It is suitable for working mums, mums staying at home, single mums, mothers with multiples and all other mums. It includes internet resources for further information.
It is a book that doesn’t have to be read from cover to cover but can be dipped into and used as a reference book. (Plenty of scientific data).
A particularly useful section is the ‘Tear out toolkit’ – these are pages at the back that can be cut out and left on the fridge for quick reference. One of my favourites is the refridgerator help sheet, which lists little jobs visitors could help with (like washing up mugs), a list of online breastfeeding resources, problem solving tips and a sheet of information for day care providers.
This is a book I read when my son was 12 months old and I so wished someone had told me about it when I was pregnant. A great gift for a new or expectant mum.
