Weekly Round Up

Weekly round up – there have been some interesting articles this week.

First was a lovely article on the importance of bare foot for children – which links in nicely with the live I did in the facebook group about shoes.

An interesting article on how walking can increase blood circulation to the brain

There was a very sad video from a couple who lost their little baby to Group Strep B, tragic. But sadly how to deal with this is not simple, and rather than blanket use of antibiotics or tests for Group Strep B it is important for parents to know all the facts and make their own decisions. Dr Sara Wickham is a midwife, researcher and author and someone who I value very highly – I have taken her Vit K and Gathering in the knowledge courses and she explains how to decipher research to see if it is useful or not.

Here is her article on GBS

Something that made me do a little dance was a midwife who is creating a training programme for midwives to help reduce traumatic birth – on reading some of the training points you do think shouldn’t this be part of the training anyway – but so much value in this training and such changes this will make.

Also a really useful visual on how to make sense of the ARRIVAL study – this is an example of why it is important to understand research or have someone be able to explain to you what the outcome really means and how the reserach was conducted (and why all decisions in pregnancy and labour are not as simple as all that)
